2024 National Road Safety Week
Published on 06 May 2024
Mid-Western Regional Council is committed to promoting safer responsible driving practices across the region. As part of this ongoing dedication, Council is actively participating in National Road Safety Week, scheduled 5 - 12 May 2024.
With a concerning uprise in road crashes and fatalities in recent years, the importance of road safety cannot be overstated. Approximately 1200 lives are lost, and over 40,000 individuals sustain serious injuries on Australian roads annually. These tragedies can be prevented through safer driving habits and increased awareness.
To support National Road Safety Week, Council staff will display yellow ribbons on Council’s car fleet, symbolising their commitment to this initiative.
National Road Safety Week is facilitated by the Safer Australian Roads and Highways Group, providing invaluable resources for all members of the community interested in contributing to safer roads. Among these resources is a pledge available on the initiative's website, encouraging road users to commit to safer driving practices.
The pledge emphasises the importance of driving with care, eliminating distractions, adhering to speed limits, and protecting vulnerable road users, such as road workers, pedestrians and cyclists.
