2025 Australia Day Winners

Australia Day Award winners were announced at the Mid-Western Region Australia Day ceremony at Anzac Memorial Park, Gulgong today.

Awards were presented by Mayor Des Kennedy and Australia Day Ambassador, Joanne Taranto.

2025 AWARD WINNERS

Category Recipient Details
Citizen of the Year Carol Jones Carol Jones is President of the St Mary’s Conference at the Saint Vincent De Paul Society. Carol supports individuals and families in need with food, clothing, welfare checks, and connections to essential services.
Young Citizen of the Year Grace Pearce Grace Pearce is an active leader and a passionate advocate for youth in agriculture. She is president of Gulgong Campdraft and coordinated a Youth Development Day for over 150 attendees.
Community Event of the Year Mudgee Lions Eye Health Programme for Children The Mudgee Lions Club’s Eye Health Programme has screened over 670 children across 13 schools, detecting potential vision issues in 134 cases. Volunteers travelled 1,300 km to provide this vital service, ensuring children access necessary care.
Glen Johnston Memorial Award (Music and Arts) Tyrolin Puxty Tyrolin Puxty is a multi-talented artist, mentor, author, and the founder of Stepping Out in Mudgee. A celebrated performer, award-winning author, and dedicated volunteer, Tyrolin’s students have excelled in major platforms like The Voice and Australian Idol.
Sports Award Chelsea Mottershead Chelsea Mottershead represented Australia in the U17 soccer team at a New Zealand tournament and won the Sydney 2nd-grade women’s cricket finals. Chelsea also mentors younger players.
Volunteer Services Award Lorraine Stewart Wife, mother, grandmother, and business owner Lorraine Stewart has dedicated decades to various organisations, including the Mudgee Museum, Riding for the Disabled, and the CWA, as well as school and sports committees.
Wall of Reflections David Bruce Lester Family man and farmer David Bruce Lester was a fourth-generation Mudgee resident who volunteered for countless organisations. Amongst many other achievements, David served as Captain of the NSW RFS Piambong Brigade for over 50 years and was awarded the Commonwealth Australian Sports Medal in 2000.
