Published on 21 November 2024
After a long wait, the dates are finally set. The Charity Shield featuring South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons will return to Glen Willow on 22 February 2025.
This is the seventh Charity Shield Fixture to be held in Mudgee. Mid-Western Regional Council has secured the matches as part of an extended two-year partnership with the clubs, continuing into 2026.
Mayor Des Kennedy acknowledges the region’s passion for football and premium sporting facilities have attracted players and fans back for the annual pre-season event. “Glen Willow Stadium has established itself as a premier venue capable of hosting large-scale events. Our successful track record with the Charity Shield and other major sporting fixtures has been instrumental in securing this extended partnership.”
Mid-Western Regional Council is also thrilled to have the Penrith Panthers playing an NRL Telstra Premiership Match at Glen Willow Stadium over the next two years in 2025 and 2026. The first game will take place on 22 August 2025 at 6.00pm against the Canberra Raiders.
Mayor Des Kennedy is equally excited to welcome both the Panthers and the Raiders to the region. “Hosting premiership games is not only a win for sports enthusiasts but also brings significant economic benefits to the region, with thousands of fans expected to travel and spend in the region's towns on accommodation, dining, and retail.”
Ticket sales for both the Charity Shield and Telstra Premiership matches will be announced at a later date. Tickets for the games will be available through 123tix.com.au.
