Boil Water Alert remains in place
Published on 15 March 2022
Council is reminding all residents in Rylstone, Kandos, Charbon and Clandulla they must continue to boil any water being used for drinking or food preparation.
A Boil Water Alert was put in place for these townships on Thursday, 10 March after a storm event increased turbidity levels of water entering the Rylstone Water Treatment Plant, causing problems with water treatment.
Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil to make it safe. Kettles with automatic shut off switches can do this. Water should then be allowed to cool and be stored in a clean container with a lid and refrigerated.
Bottled water or cool boiled water should be used for drinking, washing uncooked food (e.g. salad vegetables and fruit), making ice, cleaning teeth, gargling and pets’ drinking water.
Dishes should be washed in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher. Children should take bottled water or cool boiled water to school.
Raw water within the Rylstone Dam remains highly turbid and Council is working to produce water of a satisfactory quality that will allow the boil water alert to be lifted.
While Council is working to improve water quality, residents are asked to make all efforts to conserve water where possible.
In the meantime, Council will today be carting water from Mudgee to supplement the water supply for Rylstone, Kandos, Charbon and Clandulla.
When the Boil Water Alert is lifted Council will advise via local media, its website and social media.
Council would like to thank residents for their continued patience and co-operation.
