A by-election for Mid-Western Regional Council will be held on Saturday, 7 December following the resignation of a sitting councillor.

Some Council facilities will be closed this week in accordance with the state-wide lockdown announced yesterday. For the period of the lockdown (until 12.01am Sunday, 22 August), Council’s Customer Service Centres will be closed, however team members are still available on 6378 2850 or via council@midwestern.nsw.gov.au Libraries and the Mudgee Arts Precinct will be closed, as well as Council venues for hire, including halls and other buildings. Customers with bookings for this period should contact Council’s Customer Service Team to reschedule. Fenced sportsgrounds are closed and there will be no community sport during the lockdown period. Passive parks, such as Lawson Park, will remain open for exercise. All waste collection will continue and waste facilities will remain open as per normal hours. Mudgee Pound and ranger services will continue to be available. “Council is still operating and our staff are still available, so if you need to get in touch with Council please do so via phone or email,” Mayor Des Kennedy said. “As our community will be aware, the Western NSW Local Health District has this morning confirmed two COVID-19 cases have been identified in Mudgee. “As we have heard so often, please get tested immediately and isolate if you have even the mildest of cold-like symptoms or concerns, and please follow the stay at home orders. “I know this is a difficult time for our community but we all need to do our part to help prevent further transmission of the virus.” Drive through testing is available at AREC Mudgee (267 Ulan Road) tomorrow Monday, 16 and Tuesday, 17 August from 10am to 3pm.
