Council is offering residents the chance to safely dispose of potentially hazardous household chemicals during the annual Chemical Clean Out this week. This Friday (27 May) residents can surrender their chemicals free of charge from 9am – 12pm at Kandos Waste Facility and at Mudgee Waste Facility from 2pm – 5pm. Hazardous chemicals that will be accepted include: solvents and household cleaners; floor care products; ammonia-based cleaners; pesticides and herbicides; poisons; pool chemicals; hobby chemicals; motor fuels; fluorescent globes and tubes; acids and alkalis; smoke detectors; paint and paint-related products; gas bottles and fire extinguishers. The cleanout is for household quantities only, up to 20 litres or 20kg (except paint which can be up to 100 litres in 20 litre containers). Bookings are not required. “This is a fantastic opportunity for all residents to dispose of any dangerous chemicals from within the home in a safe way, completely free of charge,” Council’s Manager Waste and Environmental Services, Kylie Stewart said. Residents are encouraged to make the most of this opportunity to remove chemicals responsibly, and are reminded to take care when transporting potentially dangerous chemicals to collection centres.
