Mudgee Pump Track Officially Open

The highly anticipated Mudgee Pump Track has officially opened today in time for the Christmas School Holidays.

Designed for all ages from toddlers to adults, the track is one of the largest in NSW.

A large crowd of children and parents were there to be the first to ride the track watched on by Mayor Des Kennedy, Member for Calare, Andrew Gee, and Moolarben Coal General Manager, Brian Wesley.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to finally open the park and I know local kids have been chomping at the bit to do some laps,” Mayor Kennedy said.

“I’m additionally proud that the park was developed in close consultation with the community and includes the features they wanted to see in a pump track.”

Last year, Council invited residents to provide their feedback on two proposed concept designs for the track via an online survey and face-to-face consultation event.

The design has an area for younger children on balance bikes and scooters at the front of the park, as well as areas for intermediate and expert riders on BMX further behind.

The project has been a joint initiative of Council with $421,500 provided through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (Phase 4), a $350,000 contribution from Moolarben Coal and $205,000 through the NSW Government’s ClubGrants Category Three Infrastructure Grants.

Particularly excited about the opening was nine-year-old Charlie Rixon who presented to Council about the track earlier in the year.

Charlie was given the assurance of Council’s General Manager that the park would be completed in time for Christmas and was delighted to join in the official ribbon cutting.

“It’s so good to have the pump track finally open,” Charlie said.

“We are always at the Lithgow Pump Track and I’m so happy that there is a track right here in Mudgee.”

Mudgee Pump Track is located within the Glen Willow Sports Precinct adjacent to Mudgee Dog Park off Pitts Late.
