Road Safety Week

It’s National Road Safety Week, a time to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
Road trauma can have a devastating and long lasting impact on everyone involved. Each year, more than 1200 lives are lost in road crashes across Australia and more than 35,000 people are seriously injured.
Road Safety Officer, Sam Cecchini said Council works closely with road safety organisations and government agencies towards improving road safety in the region and making a pledge to road safety.
“The pledge asks you to drive as if your loved ones are on the road ahead, remove distractions, never use your mobile phone while at the wheel, slow down, and protect vulnerable road users by giving them the space they need to be safe,” she said.
“You too can make this pledge to road safety by visiting the National Road Safety Week website at www.roadsafetyweek.com.au.”
National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative by Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group in memory of Sarah Frazer who was killed alongside a tow truck driver in the emergency lane of a NSW highway in 2012.
