Investments Policy
Council investments are reported at Council meetings, as per section 212 of the Local Government (General) Regulation 2021. The Government Information (Public Access) Regulation 2018 also stipulates a ‘register of investments’ is open access information (section 1(3)(B) of schedule 1).
These reports can be found in the finance section of the Council meeting minutes and satisfy the requirements of the legislation.
Policy Objective:
To provide a framework for managing the investment of Council funds. It aims to ensure Council:
- Complies with the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
- Identify risks, risk management strategies and establishes tolerable levels of exposure to risk
- Give due consideration to the preservation of capital
- Maintain sufficient liquidity to meet all cash flow requirements
- Maximise the rate of return in line with all requirements of this policy
- Establish guidelines in relation to monitoring and reporting on investments
- Confirm delegations of authority and other governance matters in relation to investments
