The Glenwillow Pump/Jump park, Concept 1 has been designed to maintain interest. Dirtz experience has established that pumptracks solely focused on pumping alone, gain
interest when first opened then see significantly reduced attendance as time passes. The result being a facility that represents poor investment. This is simply because ‘rolling
around a loop’ is only going to be fun for so long. Generally children will continue to attend a facility if it continues to challenge them or offers the opportunity to place
something on Instagram or other social media platforms. Even the simplest of Table top jumps still offer the opportunity for a young novice rider to safely get their wheels in the
air. Additionally we have found that too many corners quickly lead to reduce attendance at a facility. Especially 180 degree corners., This can be attributed to the fact that only a
small number of riders can corner and maintain or gain speed whilst doing so, it also doesn’t offer the chance to get their wheels in the air as easily (unless part of a transfer
section).
The design aims to appeal to the widest possible audience whilst still addressing the key points we know create a successful facility that will maintain interest over time.
The Pump/Jump park is separated into separate runs:
◦ Junior area - at front of facility
◦ Intermediate run
◦ Expert run (at back of facility); and
◦ Common return rhythm line
Riders can change from Intermediate to Expert and back utilising transfer areas
Average treadpath width is 2.0m with transfer areas being wider
Drainage is proposed to be surface utilising header walls and naturally landscaped swales
